Update: Behaviour plans changes to 2B

On October 9, Behaviour community manager Mandy confirmed plans to adjust Feng Min’s Legendary 2B outfit to bring it closer to the original character. She did not give a firm date. A possible second bugfix patch was an expectation rather than a commitment.

Mandy’s statement on the official forum

It is good to see a response. The announcement has not itself changed the model, so the assessment below concerns the launch appearance. Once the changes arrive, the comparison should be revisited.

I am glad to hear it. Behaviour has already shown that it can adapt characters from other games convincingly. I want 2B to receive the same care. What matters now is comparing the revised model with the one we got at launch.

I understand why players are upset about 2B’s appearance in Dead by Daylight. A character this recognizable deserved more care.

Bringing NieR:Automata into DBD is a good idea. The execution is where I have a problem. White hair, a blindfold and a black outfit make the inspiration recognizable. I expect a Legendary Outfit to offer more than a collection of signature accessories.

I can live with A2. 2B is a different story

A2 is acceptable to me. She does not have to be perfect to capture the character. With 2B, the face feels wrong, and her build, particularly the shoulders and torso proportions, looks broader and more angular to me than in the original.

In the comparison below, I am looking primarily at the face, hairstyle and upper-body outfit. DBD’s puffed sleeves broaden the outline of the shoulders more, while the face gives me a different impression from the original. The lighting, pose and camera angle differ, so I am not treating these images as measurements of the model’s proportions. They show the specific features whose execution I am judging.

The hair and the way the clothing sits add to that impression. In replies to the official post on X, players ask for changes to the face, less puffy shoulders and a less stiff-looking dress. I understand those complaints. They concern the overall impression of the character, rather than a tiny detail that only becomes noticeable when you zoom in.

Other crossovers explain the expectations

The discussion includes fan comparisons, references to other collaborations and jokes about this being another Rainbow Six Siege situation. Players are not assessing DBD’s 2B in isolation. They already have other versions to compare her with.

2B appeared in Soulcalibur VI, and Stellar Blade also received a NieR:Automata collaboration. Fans compare the face, hair, silhouette and overall likeness. Some side-by-side images will be more useful than others, but expecting another adaptation of a familiar character to retain her appearance seems reasonable to me.

A Legendary Outfit is more than Feng Min cosplay

I do not buy the explanation that “it is just Feng Min cosplaying 2B.” Behaviour lists 2B as a Legendary Outfit for Feng Min. That category matters: an outfit inspired by another game and an outfit intended to represent another character are different expectations.

Behaviour itself describes Legendary Outfits as featuring the likeness of a different character. I therefore expect a faithful recreation of 2B’s face, silhouette and distinctive appearance. Repeating the cosplay explanation does not address the criticism of the model. It helps to understand what the category actually means first.

The engine argument does not convince me. Look at Hinako

DBD moved to Unreal Engine 5 with update 7.7.0. A general appeal to “engine limitations” is not a convincing explanation for this model to me. Naming the engine does not explain why this particular face and these proportions need to look the way they do.

I also look at Hinako from Silent Hill f, whose appearance I think DBD recreated very well. If the developers could capture that character so convincingly, why did 2B not receive the same level of care? That is a stronger comparison for me than simply saying that this is how DBD looks.

Players are paying. They can expect better

My store screenshot shows 2B’s set priced at 1,485 Auric Cells. At that price, expecting a carefully recreated face and silhouette does not seem unreasonable to me.

To me, this model looks rushed and under-polished. I want more attention to the details that give 2B her distinctive appearance.

I understand the frustration. It is the players’ money. Criticizing a paid cosmetic does not mean rejecting the crossover. Someone can really want to play as 2B and be disappointed precisely because the model does not capture the character as they expected.

Someone can really want to play as 2B and be disappointed precisely because of the execution. I am glad changes are planned. Now I am waiting for a model that gives me a reason to revise this assessment.
