Yujiro Hanma is not a character whose appearance can be mistaken for a generic fighter. His arrival in Tekken 8 raised an obvious question: how would Baki’s distinctive character translate into this fighting game’s visual style?
I think he looks fantastic. The facial structure, hair and exaggerated intimidating expression stand out in this frame. To me, Yujiro has not been softened into another ordinary fighter; he retains what makes him distinctive in Baki.
A character this distinctive can easily lose his identity in the move from 2D to 3D. Here, the developers captured the wild hair, facial features and exaggerated expression beautifully. This is the Yujiro I wanted to see in Tekken.
A first look inside the game
Yujiro had already been announced, but the EVO France presentation gave us a closer look at his model in Tekken 8.
Gameplay is coming on January 17, 2027
Bandai Namco dates the gameplay trailer for January 17, 2027, during the TEKKEN WORLD TOUR Finals. That will show how Yujiro’s appearance translates into movement and techniques. For now, the face, hair and expression capture the exaggeration I associate with Baki.
