Demon’s Souls Remake on PC recently sounded like a distant prospect. PS5 emulation footage now shows working combat scenes and much more interesting numbers than a handful of frames per second. To me, that is exciting news: the community is tackling a difficult challenge, and there is real progress to follow.

35–60 FPS in the documentation, 97 FPS in footage

The KytyPS5-SuperMedo test-build documentation reports roughly 35–60 FPS on an i9-14900K and RTX 5090 in a 2560×1440 window, with lows around 35 FPS in open areas. These are the build author’s stated results for a specific setup, a more useful reference than an isolated 100 FPS headline.

In the footage found on X, the counter shows 97 FPS in one scene, with an RTX 5090 and Ryzen 9800X3D listed in the overlay. This differs from the documented setup. Builds, settings, scenes and any use of frame generation are not fully established, so these readings cannot be combined into one benchmark or a promise of sustained 100 FPS.

Why this progress makes me happy

Demon’s Souls has appeared on PC through emulation of the PS3 release, but the PS5 remake is a separate version and technical challenge. Seeing the community make progress there makes me happy. It shows what motivated people can achieve when they really want to solve a difficult problem.

What matters most is that this is the PS5 remake. Emulating the PS3 release was a separate achievement; this project tackles another version and another hardware platform. Work like this shows what people can accomplish when they want to experience a favorite game beyond its original platform.

What I want to see next

I would like to see longer playthroughs, more areas and stable sessions with working saves and audio. Those will show how close the project is to comfortable play beyond an impressive demonstration. Its development already makes me happy. A project does not have to become a finished product immediately for its creators’ work to deserve appreciation.
